Ivor Takes Career Into The Fifth Dimension
01/04/2009

A magician who has turned his talent into a successful training initiative today announces that he is moving on from Aberdeen City Council to focus on his business Fifth Dimension.

Aberdeen-based Fifth Dimension has evolved into a flourishing company since it was established by Ivor, Bill Duncan and Jeff Burns in 1999. The professional presenters - whose magically-enhanced training techniques have a highly-positive effect on people's ability to learn, communicate and interact - work with oil and gas, corporate and various public sector clients as well as provide promotional services at exhibitions and entertainment at events and weddings.

Ivor says, "Through natural progression, Fifth Dimension has grown significantly in terms of its client base and this has always been a key part of the company's strategy. It is a very exciting time for Fifth Dimension and the development of the business means that the time is right to move on from the city council and devote myself exclusively to Fifth Dimension.

"I have enjoyed an extremely rewarding career of 28 years with Aberdeen City Council where I have been exposed to many opportunities. I first realised the idea for Fifth Dimension whilst working at the council, however I knew it would be a struggle to manage my role there as well as starting a business. Being able to job share my council post gave me the ability to manage both. This provided a stable platform from which to develop Fifth Dimension."

Through his city council role as marketing officer, Ivor has been an ambassador for Aberdeen by raising the city's profile as a prestigious business destination locally, nationally and internationally. Heading up the city economic promotion team within the city council's corporate communications department, he worked on various multi-agency projects with both the private and public sectors.

He was also responsible for organising events in places including Canada and Norway as well as the city council's exhibition presence at Offshore Europe in Aberdeen.

Ivor initially joined the council as a rent collector for the Mastrick area before becoming assistant manager at the housing benefits' department. He was subsequently appointed area housing manager.

He moved into the council's economic development department in the early 1990s as business development officer before being appointed marketing officer with the then new Aberdeen City Council.

But it was while holding training sessions for colleagues that Ivor recognised that his magic skills helped to engage his audience and get key messages across. He approached Bill and Jeff with the idea, and Fifth Dimension was born.

Since its inception, Fifth Dimension has achieved significant success. The company's most recent achievement, being incorporated into the curriculum for the first Year of The Robert Gordon University's School of Pharmacy and Life Sciences, illustrates the diversity of work they undertake.

"Variety is said to be the spice of life and that certainly holds true for our work; no two days are ever the same." Ivor concludes, "Looking to the future I will be concentrating wholly on Fifth Dimension and implementing our plans for continued sustainable, strategic growth."
