Fifth Dimension joins Arts and Business Forum
31/01/2006

Fifth Dimension is one of the founding members of the newly formed Arts & Business Scotland Creative Development Programme Forum. The forum has been set up to promote the use of a creative approach in business. Professionals from various Scottish creative companies were invited to attend the inaugural meeting which was held in Edinburgh on 18 January 2006.

Bill Duncan, partner at Fifth Dimension attended the meeting. He comments, "We welcome the opportunity to work with like minded Scottish companies to promote the use of a creative approach in business. At the meeting we explored the possibility of setting up a regular Creative Development Programme Forum. All those in attendance at the meeting agreed that as the business world is increasingly open to the use of a creative approach in business because they are realising the benefits that it can bring to their organisation the Creative Development Programme Forum would be a credible voice and therefore further the use of creativity in business.'

Bill continues, "In effect this is something that we have already been doing through our own, unique, portfolio of services. We focus on introducing creativity into the business world in a number of ways. Examples include using an approach during a training course which encompasses both humour and magic. This results in a memorable and fun training session which engages the trainee and acts as a memory aid to assist the delegate in retaining the key learning points. In addition at exhibitions we use humour and magic to great effect, attracting visitors to a particular stand and then conveying key messages and information about the exhibiting company. Humour can also make briefing sessions more entertaining, particularly within 'dry' industries which are highly technical or scientific.'

Thorpe Molloy Recruitment, leading north east recruitment specialists, has first hand experience of Fifth Dimensions' innovative approach which injects creativity into the business world. Karen Molloy, Director of Thorpe Molloy comments, "Fifth Dimension has delivered several sessions to the team at Thorpe Molloy focussing on team building and also on motivation. Their approach ensures that a serious message is delivered in a fun way. Their creative methods engage the audience and results in an enjoyable session where the key messages are not only delivered but also retained. I believe this has a direct effect on the business bottom line as a team which is motivated is going to work harder and therefore produce better results.'

Arts & Business Scotland was established in 1986 to develop a creative network which would assist business people in supporting the arts and also facilitate the inspiration of business by art and creative endeavours. As the leading advocate for the benefits of partnerships between business and the arts, at both corporate and individual level, Arts & Business Scotland deliver a range of services to both sectors.

Barclay Price, Arts & Business Scotland director, comments, "In the context of the current transition from the industrial age to the information age, the arts are recognised as an effective tool in securing a wide range of positive impacts on people, culture and performance. In particular, evidence shows that the arts have a unique ability to impact upon two key areas of organisational success - the level of creativity and innovation, and employee commitment and motivation.'
